Work with Children
What is the Anat Baniel Method® for children?
It is a learning-based, non- medical approach developed by Anat Baniel, based on the work of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. The treatment of children relies on neuroplasticity, namely, the ability of the brain to change itself. During a "lesson," the practitioner creates conditions that increase the chances of child's own nervous system to create new learning. The way we reach the child’s brain is through gentle movement, touch, and intensified awareness of self. When a child shows limitations due to any kind of developmental challenge, the natural interaction between the child's brain and his environment is compromised. However, the brain remains a powerful learning system, and this approach seeks to create opportunities under which this learning function can be effectively realized, helping the child overcome the present limitations.
In my practice I have been privileged to meet many courageous parents and kids. With my background in psychology, and as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, I keep an open mind when I work with infants and children as to their functional needs, and also advice parents on how to "play" more effectively with their kids.
Lessons are held in clusters of 3, 5 or 10 lessons in general. This way, the brain can create new connections and patterns, and changes become more evident. Some families then opt for services on a weekly basis, or they return after some time for more clusters of lessons.
